Deacon Tom Devaney
Permanent Deacon

Deacon Tom was born in Jackson Heights, Queens, although he considers himself a Brooklynite having lived in Brooklyn much of his life (and with that accent!). He was ordained to the Diaconate for the Diocese of Brooklyn in 1993 by Bishop Thomas V. Daily. Deacon Tom is married to Maureen, and they have three adult children and five grandchildren.

During his diaconal formation he became involved in hospital ministry, which led to his certification as a chaplain by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains in 1998. Deacon Tom has served as a chaplain, or as a director of Pastoral Care, within the Dioceses of Brooklyn and Rockville Center and the Archdioceses of New York, Newark, and Washington, DC.

In January 2020, he became the Director of Spiritual Care for PennState Health Saint Joseph after serving for seven years as the Director of Mission and Pastoral Care for Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He retired from PennState Health Saint Joseph in July 2021.

In addition to his healthcare ministry, Deacon Tom has assisted with various aspects of parish life. He has a Masters of Art in Pastoral Counseling from Fordham University and a Certificate in Spiritual Direction. Deacon Tom and Maureen have led Pre-Cana groups for the Diocese of

Brooklyn. Maureen and Deacon Tom are happy to be members of Saint Ignatius of Loyola Parish and serving the people of Sinking Spring. They believe that God has led them to where He wants them to be!
